Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my!
You know what can be just as scary? Your junk drawer! Between stray thumbtacks and broken jewelry, you could get hurt just reaching in there! It doesn’t need to be that way though. It just needs a little organization and TLC.
All Right Moves recently unpacked its first client that did NOT have a junk drawer in their kitchen.
Boy, were we surprised. They didn’t even know what a “junk drawer” was!
It could easily be defined as a place where we throw…well, just about anything; an accumulated mess. This drawer is often too scary (or difficult) to open if you need to find something important quickly. It ordinarily contains small, utilitarian items such as scissors, post it notes, tape, and markers. You know, essentials that should be easy to find when needed. Unfortunately they are often tangled and entwined with other, less useful, objects such as hair-bands, broken pencils, breath mints, stray hardware, dog treats, string, random spare keys, salt & pepper packets, and “Happy Meal” toys.
Keep in mind the old adage “There’s a place for everything, and everything in its place”.
This mindset will allow you freedom from searching through the clutter to find what you need in a hurry. After all, isn’t the whole idea of moving supposed to be a fresh new start? Evaluate the storage space in your new surroundings. Splurge before unpacking and “trick it out” with some organizing bling – like drawer organizers, dividers and trays. Things that will help you tame the beast.
The “dreaded junk drawer” dilemma will no longer exist if you add in organizing compartments, give the drawer an occasional review, and throw the real junk away before it ever reaches the drawer. Then, you will truly not have to worry about sweating the small stuff anymore!
